A set of Mike Reynolds plans for a three bedroom Earthship are already in New Zealand just waiting for someone ready to make a start on their build project. In addition to these plans there is a solid amount of research available to assist with gaining permission for an Earthship build, as well as earthship-experienced professionals and others with international earthship building experience.

I don’t fully understand. Are you reselling the plans from Earthship Biotecture?
Hi Nathan, No we’re not. Someone in NZ has bought a set of plans from Earthship Biotecture with the intent, as I understand it, of doing a build for someone else. These plans are available through them.
Can these plans be changed? I am really interested inbuilding this type of home on my new land but only want 2 bedrooms.
Aren’t Earthship plans normally pretty site specific?
Hi there. Earthship Biotecture ship a full set of plans LESS a site plan. It includes (as I understand based on their literature) all the services plans and calculations needed. You will still need a local architect to draw a site plan and (I imagine) undersign the Biotecture drawings as being NZ building code compliant (or make changes if required – hopefully nothing major if at all). Hopefully that will be a relatively minor cost as the ‘solution’ is already packaged together.
Hi there
My family and I are going to build an earthship on our land this summer here in Waihola, which is just south of Dunedin, are these plans still available?
Kind Regards
Mel Chalklin
Any help or advice would be much appreciated, please email; organic.otago@gmail.com
Hi, my family and I are also building an earthship in the Waikato (near Raglan) and are about to start the building consent. Any advice or help would be welcomed.
Thanks

Hi – I am a registered architect with a long interest in earthen and other natural materials, as well as appropriate building technology. I occasionally help the DBH with determinations as to Building Code Compliance with buildings that use natural materials. I have looked into earthships both in Taos and also in NZ. The original earthship concept would require considerable modification to meet both NZ conditions and NZ Building Code requirements. I am not sure what is being currently proposed, but a lot of my work has involved looking into overseas information to see how it may apply here. I am available for consultation if required on specific projects. Regards, Graeme North FNZIA
We are moving to Tauranga and keen to find a site to build an earthship house on it. Would be great to join a newsletter with info about NZ Earthship, information, building code requirements.
