Training and Volunteering in NZ

THES011

The best way to find out about how to build your own Earthship is to learn by doing.  On our news and events page we will post opportunities for hands-on practical learning about Earthship construction  in NZ.  Contact us at info@earthship.co.nz if you would like to add information to this page.

The Land -This workshop will take place on a beautiful 10 acre property near Dunedin, New Zealand.

What we will be doing/learning - We will be taking this build from tyre work onwards (though there will still be some to pound!). We will be working with the Earthship Biotecture principals, focusing on; Thermal mass, building with recycling materials, water harvesting and power generation.

More specifically you will get a chance to learn and build steel vault, bond beams, glass bottle work, tyre pounding, water catchment, laying can for formwork, insulation and drainage behind a tyre wall, mixing concrete, cob, natural plasters, lime render and more!

Shared learning - The intention is to create a place for the meeting of like minded people  - as well as learning building skills its a place to share knowledge and skills across all topics. Its about cooking, working, learning and celebrating together. Bring instruments, inspiring books and anything to add to a vibrant space.

Waiheke Earthship Internship

Planning for the Earthship build project in Onetangi Waiheke Island is well underway, however extensive delays in the design phase in order to comply with code has delayed the original scheduled start date of Feb 2014.  No date will rescheduled until consent has been granted. At that time, there may be opportunity for up to fifty interns to be selected to work on the project.  Sponsorship is being sought to be fund a small number of selected interns to attend the US Earthship Academy to undergo further training and obtain a qualification from Earthship Biotecture.

The design and building consent process is ongoing and a more detailed description of this opportunity and an application process will be posted as soon as the liklihood of consent has been ascertained.  Inquiries: dana.darwin@platformone.org.nz.  Phone 027 281 5022
