This is a cool short video by Second Year AUT students interviewing Brian and Karen Gubb. Although its design is a unique interpretation of Michael Reynolds original and its still being finished off on the inside; its a great testament to the fact that “it can be done!”
Well done the Gubbs!
I would be nice to get NZ-standardised earthship plans for one- to- four- bedroom places. Perhaps of group of enthusiasts could acquire the “simple” design plans and lob them at Grahame North to correct. WIh standardised plans in place, perhaps we could set up our own Earthship Module manufacturing for local consumption.
It’s just sme ideas.
Chas.
I think this is a great idea, although I am unsure how much the global model plans would need to be ‘NZ standardised’ – this has been a debating point across professionals in the Earthship community for years. I think Grahame should offer up where he might see corrections and we could move things along from there. There has been issues raised with NZ getting too much solar gain in the summer and a perception that NZ soil conditions would be too damp to manage heat storage, good ambient temperatures and moisture management – but then again do you think NZ is significantly damper than Ger, Normandy, Brighton, England or Zwolle, Netherlands? I have long wanted someone to get the relevant atmospheric and soil data from these locations to do a like for like comparison.
